I was so surprised to see that Baxley has the REAL DEAL Mexican food. It is located behind the CVS across from their drive thru. I lived on the Valley (South Texas) border for serval years and would visit Northern Mexico often to eat and shop. I haven't had this type of food in years other than in places like Atlanta and D.C. I have never had a Sope in the states like I had here. I have had similar Central American sopes in the U.S. but they are a little different than Mexican sopes I am used to. The Pastor is incredibly delicious. Full of porky, pineappley, annatto spiced flavor. The lengua, asada, carnitas, and borrego (lamb) are fantastic as well (I only wish they had cabrito but the borrego was good enough). They are served many different fashions including with the authentic and traditional "silver dollar" corn tortilla tacos. The rice and beans are of the same quality. The Aguas Frescas like Horchata and Melon are rich and full of natural flavors. They do serve menudo and have a great priced lunch buffet I have not tried yet. The service is good, Spanish helps but you can navigate the experience well enough. The attached store is full of everything you need for your Mexican home cooking spice needs and candies like spicy mango lollies, Rosa Mazapan, and many others are available at cheap prices. If you are missing the real deal Mexican experience like I was you will not be disappointed. No gringo counterfeiters here. This place will take you home. If you don't know what real Mexican food is give it a try. Some things will be familiar, mostly in name, but this is NOT American style Mexican food.
